Indices end at two-week high led by IT stocks; Nifty 50 above 24,800


Sensex Today | Stock Market LIVE Updates: The markets are trading from off the highs. The Nifty is trading with gains of around 50 points. The 50-stock index is trading just below the 24,850 mark. The Sensex index is trading around the 81,000 mark with gains of close to 300 points. The biggest gainers at the bourse are IT stocks, including Infosys, Wipro, Tech Mahindra and HCLtech.

Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: Benchmark indices ended at a two-week high on Monday, led by strong gains in IT stocks after Infosys announced it would consider a share buyback on September 11.

Infosys was the top gainer, rising 5% after the buyback news, which triggered buying across the IT pack. Wipro, Tech Mahindra, HCLTech and TCS gained 2-3% each, lifting the index higher. Auto majors Maruti Suzuki and Eicher Motors extended their gaining streak, adding 1% each. Kotak Bank saw a recovery, with sources indicating the company may witness ₹6,000 crore worth of block deals.

On the other hand, Trent continued to face selling pressure, ending as the top Nifty loser for the second straight session. New-age companies such as Paytm, Nykaa and Delhivery fell 2-3%, while Sonal BLW slipped 2% after reports of a dispute in Karisma Kapoor’s family over Sunjay Kapur’s assets. Bikaji Foods also declined 2% after the Enforcement Directorate summoned the company’s managing director.

Among other movers, RailTel surged 6% after bagging a ₹660 crore order from the Bihar Education Project Council, while Prime Focus hit the 10% upper circuit for a third straight session on the back of block deals. Voltamp declined nearly 4% after ₹618 crore worth of block deals.
